It's been a while since I've posted here. Since my last post a lot has changed with the arrival of many new devices especially in the tablet arena. The biggest change has been my shift of preference to more and more Samsung products. Starting with the new Samsung Series 9 super thin, lightweight laptop. I remember a time not too long ago where my only option for a high performance light weight laptop was the Sony Z series. For quite some time the Z series held its reign of imperial status. The only problem was its hefty price. When I purchased my Macbook back in 2008 I paid NZD$2500 while the equivalent Vaio Z, was NZD$4500. It is true that is was much lighter and slightly better in performance, but nevertheless was too expensive for me to purchase it over the Macbook. Two years later Sony lost its monopoly on the Premium high performance laptop market with the entrance of other players such as Toshiba and IBM (highlighted in my previous post). Finally, other manufacturers got around to making machines similar in nature to the Vaio Z but at half the price. The catch here, though was that the build quality or performance was at par with the Vaio Z. So you could pay less but it just meant that you don't get as much. However, another year on from then things have changed with the introduction of the Samsung Series 9 laptop. It is made out of duralumin, which is used in aircraft construction, known to be much stronger than aluminium but lighter. It comes down to this. The Samsung Series 9 has a 128gb SSD hard drive, 8gb ram, 1.31kg, 10hour battery, Superbright plus display all for NZD$2800. All the while the product is more than satisfactory. Other products recently released by Samsung are also impressive such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Galaxy S2.
